It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee at Unleashing Readers for those reading kidlit to YA. You're invited to share the books you finished last week and the books you hope to finish this week.
This past week I read:
Untamed was a great ending to the Splintered series! I also enjoyed The Legend of the Monk and the Merchant because of how much information and lessons were packed into such a short read. Last week I had An Ember in the Ashes down to read, but I couldn't get into it so I'm putting it back on the TBR pile for now.
I need to read the newest book in the Cinder series, but I can't get it away from students long enough to read it myself! Looks like you had a good week.
ReplyDeleteOh you definitely have to get to that one! Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite authors now because of that series.

Hmmm..the self-editing book looks like a valuable read! Writing is the fun part, editing....not so much ;)
ReplyDeleteI finished Self-Editing this afternoon. It is superb! I love that it jumps right into each problem and introduces ways to solve them in a span of 10-15 pages. There is no fluff whatsoever. I recommend this book to any writer! And I agree: the editing is rough haha.
DeleteThank you for visiting! :)
Thank you for your review of Red Queen! I keep on going back and forth between if I want to read it or not, but your review definitely pushed me towards READ IT!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week :)

Oh you're welcome! I was on the fence because I thought I needed a longer break from dystopian-like novels, but this one has more weight to it than teenagers fighting each other ;)

I haven't had a chance to start the Splintered series. I think I'll have to put it on my list. I also tried to get into the Ember in the Ashes, but found myself dreading it. I thought it was because of the stress in my life, so I'm thankful to read that you abandoned it too. After reading your review, I might have to put the Red Queen closer to the top of my pile.
ReplyDeleteThe Splintered series is a marvelous read because while it's a dark, gothic version of Wonderland, it's not heavy in any way. It still holds on to the whimsical fairy tale origins.
DeleteAnd I'm so glad so many of you are reconsidering Red Queen! I read that right before Ember, and the emotional feel of the novels is nothing alike.
Thank you so much for visiting! :)
The book cover of Untamed caught my eye - very riveting!
ReplyDeleteThat artwork is the whole reason I picked up the first book in the series. The artist is Nathalie Suellen and she is MARVELOUS! Her other work is just as stunning (and the book inside is wonderful as well haha).
